Balancing the Scales

Balancing the Scales: Evanston History Center and YWCA Evanston/Northshore Celebrate Evanston Women
Sunday, March 8 4:00pm
In-person event
At the Evanston History Center
225 Greenwood St, Evanston, IL
Join the History Center and the YWCA for this special event celebrating Evanston women and organizations that work towards balancing the scales in gender equality. The program will include:
* Film clips by Evanston filmmaker Susan Hope Engel. Engel chronicled the stories of courageous Northshore women for the YWCA’s YWomen program from 2008-2024. We will show two inspiring clips: profiles of theater maker Gloria Bond Clunie and activist philanthropist Marjorie Craig Benton, who will both be in attendance.
* A mini-exhibition from the archives of the YWCA, highlighting the Y’s work empowering women
* Music by Evanston-based singer-songwriter Sarah Marie Young
* Poetry on demand by Kro, The Traveling Typist
* Tea, coffee, punch and treats will be served
* Ages 12+, guests are encouraged to come with a mother, daughter, granddaughter, grandmother, niece, aunt, mentor or friend from another generation.

Please consider supporting the History Center’s work documenting and sharing Women’s History in Evanston. Your contribution will go towards stipends for student researchers, the development of new content for www.evanstonwomen.org, exhibits, and special events such as this one that bring the community together through the sharing of women’s stories.
