Kristen Nelson

Kristen joins the Evanston History Center as Director of External Relations continuing a twenty-year career rich in maximizing capacity building for mission-driven nonprofit organizations from Boston to southeast Virginia. As a recent transplant, Kristen brings a passion for community engagement to the Evanston History Center, inspired by Evanston’s rich history and the stunningly beautiful treasure that is The Dawes House.

Most recently, Kristen served as Director of Communications for St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children in Norfolk, Virginia. For five years, she helped raise funds and friends to support 100 children and young adults with profound disabilities.

Kristen holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from James Madison University. She is a proud AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps Alum and recipient of the U.S. Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Personally, Kristen loves to travel the world. Most recently, her greatest trip included hiking 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain.
